Among Nation’s Best for Music Education

Piscataway Township Schools has been named among the Best Communities for Music Education in America for the ninth year in a row. Piscataway is one of just 1,008 districts across the country to be chosen for the prestigious honor for 2026. The NAMM Foundation (National Association of Music Merchants) has recognized the district for its outstanding commitment to music education. We are one of just 69 districts in New Jersey and five in Middlesex County to be selected. Now in its 27th year, Best Communities for Music Education highlights outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders who work together to ensure access to music learning for all students as part of the school curriculum.

Video of the Month

Those who have given of your own time to support our district this year were honored on Tuesday, May 5, at Volunteer Recognition Night at Piscataway High School, where they watched this special tribute video. Honorees include our Board of Education, parent organizations, Board committees, and more. The event was hosted by Superintendent Erskine R. Glover and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Glenn Lottmann, and featured our principals and committee liaisons recognizing their volunteers for a round of applause. Everyone got to hear performances by members of our PHS chamber music program, and each volunteer was given a “Piscataway Volunteer” car magnet as a token of thanks that fit with the theme of the night, “Volunteer Drive Pway!”

PHS Media Center Rebuilt for the Future

Piscataway Township Schools cut the ribbon on a stylish new PHS Media Center on Tuesday, April 21, debuting a modernized multipurpose space that features a traditional library, meeting space in the style of a college student center, and a cutting-edge esports room. The celebration was the culmination of two years of renovation, which the District completed without incurring any bonded debt. The District administration and Board of Education touted the renovations as a modern asset that will benefit students “for the year 2030 and beyond.” Attendees were attracted to the high-tech gaming center, which includes rows of 20 gaming computers, three large display screens, an interactive Promethean smart board, and modern lighting and design. The Media Center also includes two meeting rooms, a variety of comfortable seating options and gathering areas, several TV screens and smart boards, and over 11,000 books.

Two PHS Stage Productions Honored with Nominations

She Kills Monsters: Congratulations to the Piscataway High School production of “She Kills Monster,” which earned 8 Foxy Award nominations. The Foxy Awards are sponsored by Montclair State University and celebrate the best in high school theatre from around New Jersey.

Urinetown: Congratulations to the Piscataway High School production of “Urinetown,” which has been nominated for 11 Central Jersey Marquee Awards and 3 Honorable Mentions. The Marquee Awards are an annual ceremony celebrating excellence in high school musical theater across Middlesex, Somerset, and Mercer counties – and PHS received the most nominations of any school this year. The awards will take place at the Carteret Performing Arts Center on May 18. The full cast will perform, and sophomore Jarius Gillespie will perform as part of the lead actor medley.

“Urinetown” has also been nominated for 5 Paper Mill Rising Star Awards and received two Honorable Mentions. The 2026 Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star award process involved adjudications of 114 musicals around the state over the musical season. This is essentially the Tony Awards of NJ high school theatre and the highest theatre honor in the state. The awards will take place on June 9 at Paper Mill Playhouse and will be live-streamed.
