The Piscataway High School Students Against Destructive Decisions have been very busy for National Teen Driver Safety Week, Oct. 18-24!
SADD students set up during lunch in the Anthony Commons on Monday, Oct. 19, along with the Piscataway Township Police Department, to continue spreading the message about the importance of safe driving. They had a Jeopardy-style game with facts about staying safe behind the wheel, where students won icy treats for correct answers. PHS students were encouraged to sign a safe-driving pledge banner.
They followed that up with their annual Chalk the Walk outside PHS. Students from SADD and the National Art Honor Society drew beautiful designs with catchy slogans in sidewalk chalk to get their message across. Superintendent Erskine R. Glover, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Glenn Lottmann, and Principal Chris Baldassano visited to check out the artwork and encourage the students. Thanks to art teacher Samantha Knierim, adviser of the National Art Honor Society, and her students for helping out.
SADD also volunteered at the Piscataway Bike Tour on Saturday, Oct. 17, helping to sign in registrants, and passing out snacks and shirts. One of the SADD leaders, Laila Simmons, rode in the bike tour.
Later that day, SADD students volunteered at the Randolphville Elementary Schol Color Run on Saturday. They helped with temporary tattoos, face paint, and games stations, and cheered on the runners.
Thanks to SADD adviser Laura Benjamin for her guidance and support.
