Standout senior athletes honored for academics and sportsmanship

Five Piscataway High School senior student athletes are being honored for their outstanding contributions to athletics, academics, and sportsmanship.
Jasmine Raro has been selected as Scholar Athlete by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association. This award goes to a student who has a GPA of 3.0 or higher, is an exceptional athlete, and exhibited outstanding school and community citizenship.
Sean Love and Jane Rodrigues were chosen for the Greater Middlesex Conference Jay H. Dakelman Scholar Athlete Award, which goes to a student athlete who exhibits academic and athletic accomplishment, community service, and leadership.
Ethan Metzger and Ana Brito were selected for the Greater Middlesex Conference Sportsmanship Award, which goes to athletes who represent and carry the ideals of sportsmanship and fair play.
Each of these awards carries a $500 scholarship for the winner.
“We are incredibly proud of these award winners, who exemplify what Piscataway athletics is all about,” said Athletic Director Robert Harmer. “They have excelled in the field of play as well as demonstrating the importance of academics and sportsmanship throughout their high school years, setting examples for their peers and future generations of Piscataway athletes. These young men and women represent the very best of Chiefs Nation.”
Jasmine Raro
Honor: NJSIAA Scholar Athlete
Sports: Soccer
College: Rutgers
Major: Exercise science and kinesiology
Previous Piscataway schools: Conackamack, King, Randolphville
Quote: “School and sports have always been my top priorities, so having this award shows how much I put into both of these things. And sports is where I met all my closest friends, so it means a lot. Sports has always been a place for me to let out all my emotions or if I needed a break from everything else. I’ve played soccer for most of my life, and I always pushed myself to be the best player on the field, and in school I always tried to be the best student in the classroom. So this shows how much work I have done.”
Sean Love

Sports: Wrestling, football, track
College: Uncommitted, intends to continue wrestling
Major: Kinesiology and sports science

Jane Rodrigues

Quote: “It’s an honor to have this award, because I work hard in the wrestling room and I work hard in class. I’ve had a lot of struggles in high school with medical and mental health things, so it’s really cool to show how much I’ve grown and how much I can accomplish when I set my mind to it.”
Ana Brito

Sports: Swimming
Possible colleges: Rutgers, Kean
Major: Education
Previous Piscataway schools: Schor, Arbor, Grandview
Quote: “This means a lot because someone recognized how much work I put into the team. In the past, there’s been smaller groups of friends, but this year I put a lot of effort into bringing the team together. It was a strong family this year, it was really hard to leave. And I was like the mother of the team so I brought sweets, and I brought a camera so we could vlog the whole season. I tried to make it really fun and enjoyable for everyone to get along. It was really great.”
Ethan Metzger
Honor: GMC Sportsmanship Award
Sports: Soccer
College: Moravian University, where he will play soccer
Major: Physical therapy and health sciences
Previous Piscataway schools: Quibbletown, King, Randolphville
Quote: “After giving four years to the Piscataway High School soccer team, I feel like my hard work is being noticed. I went from riding the bench my junior year to earning different awards my senior year, playing in the senior showcase, and going to college for soccer. It’s been a phenomenal experience.”
