•Fifth-grade classes will be discussing the Civil Rights movement by participating in gallery walks, reading a variety of nonfiction texts, and watching videos featuring primary source footage from the time period.
• Fourth-grade classes will be completing a project on notable historical figures, learning about their contributions to the worlds of science, math, literature, music, art, and culture.
• Some classes will be working with volunteers from Jersey Cares to participate in a virtual Black History Month trivia event.

• Teacher resources include influential speeches, videos, and lessons related to all subject areas.
• Assemblies on Feb. 27 with guest speaker Tahira, whose performance storytelling will merge the themes of Black History Month, Women's History Month, and Read Across America.
• Fourth-graders will view the film “Akeelah and the Bee” during the first week of February, following up with classroom Spelling Bees, culminating in a final schoolwide Spelling Bee Finals.
• Media Center will display fiction and nonfiction books relating to Black History Month.
• Morning announcements will center on notable Black History achievements and figures.
• Classroom plans include research projects, Black History Month stories incorporated into Literacy, and the Epic online Black History Month book collection.
