Dear Piscataway Families:

At last night’s Board of Education meeting, due to the sudden change in the Governor’s direction, the District Administration and Board agreed to revisit our plan for reopening schools in 2020-2021.

After reviewing the many factors involved in reopening schools this year, and with safety and security at the top of our list of factors to consider, we will submit an all remote instruction plan that will take us through the end of the first marking period, at which point we will make further recommendations based on the health and safety of our students and staff. We will create a revised plan which must then be submitted to the Middlesex County Department of Education for consideration and approval. With time of the essence, we intend to move quickly and pledge to communicate all developments as soon as we can.

Additionally, the Board of Education voted at last night’s meeting to cancel Piscataway’s participation in fall athletics, marching band, and all other in-person competitions. We do this out of an abundance of caution, again, putting the health and safety of students and staff first. As we move forward into the school year, we will make decisions for the winter athletic and competition season.

I understand this decision impacts every family in our District. I want to assure you that our commitment to the education of every child in our schools remains as strong as ever, and that our teachers, administrators, and staff will work together to deliver instruction that encompasses academics, social/emotional learning, and wellness.

I deeply appreciate your patience as we navigate through this difficult time and will continue to listen to and consider your suggestions and input as we move forward through the school year.
