The Board is responsible for developing and adopting district policies and for the governance of the school district. The successful candidate will serve in the position until the January 2021 reorganization meeting. Applicants who have filed petitions to run in the November 2020 school election are eligible to be considered for this vacancy in the meanwhile.

Piscataway residents who meet the legal requirements for board candidacy should submit a letter of intent with a summary of qualifications. Application materials may be sent to the Piscataway Board of Education, Attn: Business Administrator/Board Secretary, 1515 Stelton Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854 or submitted via email to, no later than 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2020.
As required by State law, to become a member of a local board of education in New Jersey, you must:

• Be able to read and write
• Hold U.S. citizenship and one year’s residency in the school district
• Be registered to vote in the district before filing the nominating petition/application
• Have no interest in any contract with, or claim against, the board
• Not hold office as mayor or member of the municipal governing body or, in the case of county school districts, the county governing body
• Not simultaneously hold two elective offices
• Not be disqualified from membership for the conviction of certain crimes. (Within 30 days of election or appointment to the board, a member must undergo a criminal history background investigation through the state Department of Education.)

All applications will be reviewed by the Board of Education. Interviews may be scheduled at the discretion of the Board of Education. After consideration of the applications received, a new board member will be selected by the current board.
