Football Stadium Naming Opportunity

In conjunction with a family request, the Piscataway Board of Education will retire Dominic Ciardi’s name from the Piscataway High School Football Stadium. The Board now seeks to rename the PHS Football Stadium, and welcomes nominations from the school community.

The opportunity to name a school or school facility does not arise often, and should be undertaken with care and respect. The naming process is outlined in Board Policy 7250- School and Facility Names. The first step is to solicit from the public names of individuals worthy of this permanent recognition.

The primary goal in selecting an honoree is to name an individual who has inspired and challenged our students and families to pursue the highest ideals of citizenship, scholarship, and community service. This permanent recognition is important for current members of the school community as well as future generations.

  • The PHS Football Field may be named for individuals, entities or groups of individuals, geographic locations, historical events or other iconic symbols enjoying widespread recognition and support across the district.
  • Usually, naming honors are only bestowed to an individual who is deceased, when their accomplishments and moral character are established historical facts. In rare cases, the Board may name a school or facility after an individual still living who: (a) has demonstrated a longstanding record of service to the district, the Township of Piscataway, the State of New Jersey or the nation, compelling enough to deserve permanent recognition; (b) is of unquestionable moral character, and a role model for those attending or using the school facility; (c) is widely known and admired throughout the district; and (d) whose association with the school or facility will otherwise advance the goals stated in this Policy.

All nominations will be considered. Initial review will be by the Board’s Culture, Climate and Community Relations Committee, before a final selections is made by the full Board.

Nominations are now closed and under review.
