PISCATAWAY TOWNSHIP BOARD OF EDUCATION
MEETING NOTICE – CHANGE IN TIME AND FORMAT


Due to the declaration of a Public Health Emergency and State of Emergency by the Governor of the State of New Jersey, the Business Meeting of the Piscataway Township Board of Education scheduled for August 13, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Administration Building is now scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. and will take place via video teleconference. Upon opening the meeting, the Board will immediately convene an Executive Session to review and discuss the personnel agenda, litigation, HIB monthly reports, and other matters pursuant to law N.J.S.A. 10:4-12(b).  

The Public Session of the meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. and action will be taken. Members of the public may view the Public Session of the meeting by accessing the following Zoom link at 7:00 p.m.:

Members of the public can submit public comments via email to Boardmeeting@pway.org up until the Public Comment portion of the meeting. Public comments should include the sender’s name and address and will be read aloud by the Board Secretary during the video teleconference.

  • Note: The Board opens its meetings at 7:00 PM and regularly convenes an executive session to discuss items that are specified in its motion to convene an executive session. The Board normally reconvenes in public session at 8:00 PM. All meetings of the Board of Education shall be considered action meetings.
  • Committee Meetings begin at 6:30 PM with the exception of the Fiscal Planning & Operations Committee Meetings,  and the Community Relations Committee Meetings which begin at 7:00 PM, and School Culture and Climate, which meets at 10:00 AM during July and August.
The Piscataway Board of Education encourages the involvement of parents and other citizens in its public schools. Volunteer opportunities exist in all schools, ranging from library, to classrooms, from parent-teacher organizations to Board of Education Committees.
 
Members of Board of Education Committees explore issues directly related to the operations of the schools and make recommendations for action to the Board. Listed below is a brief description of each committee and its function. Members serve for a one-year term and may reapply each year. Committees are advisory; decisions rest with the Board of Education.
  • Community Relations: Creates and executes initiatives to improve public support and awareness of educational opportunities. Efforts include assisting at community events, and initiating activities that strengthen communication among all segments of the community.  
  • Curriculum and Programs (Pupil Services and Technology): Reviews curriculum, texts, and programs in order to recommend Board adoption, carefully considering the issues and research related to the education of all children.
  • Fiscal Planning and Operations: Ensures resources are allocated and utilized in accordance with the Board's short and long term educational and operational goals and objectives.
  • Legislative/Policy: Develops and revises district board policies as mandated by law or required for the daily operation of the district. Efforts include addressing issues with public officials. 

  • School Culture and Climate: Assist school and district with culture and climate initiatives that will benefit the entire Piscataway community. Efforts will include beautification projects and programs that will promote positive educational environments.
