Language Arts Curriculum Grades 9-12
Students in grades 9 – 12 engage in studies that underscore the belief that the language arts are integrative, interactive ways of communicating that develop through reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing.  Students acquire the knowledge necessary for thinking and communicating; recognize and understand one’s own purpose for thinking and communicating through print or nonprint, verbal or nonverbal means; and hone the ability to use one’s own resources to achieve those purposes.  Instruction emphasizes language as an active process that develops in a social context, that increases in complexity, and that is mastered by using and exploring language in its many dimensions.  Students refine the skills they will carry with them into adulthood: critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity.  In addition, students discover the inner joy and self-illumination that come with reading great literature and communicating through speech and writing.
