On the evening of Wednesday, January 11, eighth graders from all three Piscataway Middle Schools – Conackamack, Quibbletown, and T. Schor – along with their parents, converged on Piscataway High School for the PHS Experience. This annual event offers students a sneak peek into what will become their home away from home for the next four years.
Beginning in the Performing Arts Center with the Presentation of Colors by the PHS AFJROTC and hosted by PHS Senior Olivia Greene, students and their families were treated to performances from the PHS Choir and a number from the upcoming school musical “Guys and Dolls.” Speakers included Superintendent Teresa Rafferty, School Board President William Irwin and PHS Principal Jason Lester.
PHS Seniors Simona Alvery and Kevin Carolina also addressed the audience, offering advice on how to navigate academics, extra-curricular activities, and new friendships. “The greatest part of high school, is you have the opportunity to make it whatever you want it to be,” said Carolina.
Following the presentation in the PAC, students toured the gym and cafeteria, where current students and teachers had set up tables showcasing activities and offering an opportunity to discuss academic options.
